How to connect Railway

Step 1: Create an Integration

  1. Go to your organization’s Integrations page.
  2. Click Add Integration and select Railway.
  3. You’ll receive a unique Webhook URL. Copy it.

Step 2: Add the Webhook in Railway

  1. Open your project in Railway and click Settings (top right).
  2. Open the Webhooks tab.
  3. Paste your Hookfire webhook URL.
  4. Add the custom header from Step 3.
  5. Optionally choose which events to send, then click Save Webhook.

Railway webhooks cover every environment in the project.

Step 3: Signing Secret (custom header)

Railway does not sign its webhooks. Its docs recommend sending a secret in a custom header instead, and Hookfire checks it:

  1. Make up a long random string.
  2. In the Railway webhook form, add a header named X-Hookfire-Secret with that string as the value.
  3. Paste the same string into the Signing Secret field on your Hookfire integration page.

Deliveries without the header, or with a different value, are refused. Railway stores header values encrypted and does not show them again, so keep a copy until you have pasted it into Hookfire.

Step 4: Subscribe to Events

On your Hookfire integration page, toggle on the events you want to receive push notifications for.

Step 5: Test

Click the Test button next to an event on your integration page.

Supported Events

Event Description
Deployment.failed A deployment failed to build or start
Deployment.crashed A running deployment crashed

Railway also sends successful deployment, volume and resource alert events, but does not publish their event names, so Hookfire does not offer them yet.
